Growing in popularity, animated dolls are becoming a favorite gift and collectible item these days.  A hard to find model are the animated disco guy dolls.  Apparently, enough years have passed since the disco era, making fun items like animated disco guy dolls more and more popular among collectors.

Animated disco guy dolls work like other moving dolls.  They are often radio controlled or motion activated.  If you’ve been in a Wal-Mart lately, you might have seen the “almost life-size” dancing Santa they post at the entrance in many locations during the holidays.  Those are motion activated and do a kind of gyrating bump-and-grind disco dance.  It’s actually a bit unnerving the first time you see it, but it’s also hilarious.

Many animated disco guy dolls are just like the dancing Santas, only smaller.  There are really two types of people who enjoy them.  Kids comprise the first group.  They like the novelty of a moving doll, and the outrageous disco garbs add a humorous effect.  Kids most often prefer the motion-activated dolls. 

The other group that seeks out animated disco guy dolls is doll collectors who specialize in models that move.  They more often prefer the radio control dolls, which will not move without activating the control unit.

Because animated disco guy dolls are rare, they often fetch a lot of money from serious collectors.  While other dancing dolls are easily found, this particular type isn’t, so they’re highly prized.  Older animated dolls in mint condition can go for thousands of dollars!
